Filly ready to make mark at Caulfield races
Rosangela, trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, will be out to shed her maiden tag this Saturday in the Next Payments Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield.
After two career runs, the filly has shown ability. She was fifth behind Palm Angel in the Listed Merson Cooper Stakes (1000m) last November before returning with a close second at Cranbourne over 1000m on April 24.
Kent Jnr explained that an issue following her debut halted their plans for the autumn, including the Golden Slipper campaign.
“In the Merson Cooper on debut she had an issue after the run,” Kent Jnr explained.
“She came back and was very good first-up but was just out collared late by a more experienced race fit horse.
“The 1100 metres should suit her on Saturday.
“She’s a well-bred filly, being by Too Darn Hot, is very genuine and she has been working well.”
John Allen will guide Rosangela from gate seven in a field of 11 runners.
Her stable companion Millennium Blade, also by Too Darn Hot, is entered at Caulfield but is expected to head to Adelaide instead. She holds an entry in the Group 3 David Coles Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville where she has drawn barrier six.
Millennium Blade was previously with Mathew Ellerton and has joined the Price and Kent Jnr stable. She impressed in a recent Cranbourne jump-out and will be ridden by Ben Melham in her likely debut at Morphettville.
