BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and JJ Atkins Stakes are options for Hidden Achievement

Chris Waller’s talented two-year-old Hidden Achievement took a step towards the Brisbane winter carnival on Saturday, breaking through for his first win in the Ortus Financial 2YO Handicap (1200m) at Gosford.
A $675,000 yearling, Hidden Achievement ($5) lived up to the early hype with a professional performance, easing off heels at the top of the straight before charging clear to win by three-quarters of a length. The effort built on his strong second placing at Canterbury on debut.
Fellow Waller-trained runner Sarapo ($8) impressed on debut with a storming second, while race favourite Chicama ($3.70) weakened after leading and had to settle for third.
Stable representative Zane Jones said the colt had made significant improvement and hinted at a trip north for stakes company.
“Lovely colt. He has just improved out of sight from his trials to his debut performance,” Jones said.
“Hidden Achievement put the writing on the wall the other day. We will let the dust settle, see how he comes through it and decide on Queensland then.”
Adam Hyeronimus was the man in the saddle, making the most of a rare opportunity to ride for the stable with several jockeys away for the start of the Queensland carnival.
“Nice to ride a very nice horse, a very nice two-year-old colt for Chris,” Hyeronimus said.
“Six furlongs probably isn’t his distance but he was just too good for them and he is only on the way up.”
Both Hidden Achievement and Sarapo are being aimed at the BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes on May 31 and the J J Atkins on June 14, two of the richest juvenile races in the country.
Meanwhile, pre-race favourite Sequista was a late withdrawal after injuring herself in transit to the track, frustrating many punters.
