Prince Tycoon could be set for the $1m Magic Millions National 2YO Classic

Promising two-year-old Prince Tycoon signalled his potential with a gritty debut win at Caulfield, putting himself in the frame for a tilt at the upcoming Magic Millions National 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast.
The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young-trained gelding was well-supported as the $2 favourite in the Next Payments Handicap and delivered with a powerful late surge to claim victory over 1100m. Despite racing greenly, he showed tenacity when it counted.
“He was hanging the whole way around the corner and wasn’t super sharp like he was in the trial and I thought, ‘geez, when you’re the first one off the bit you’re in trouble’, but to his credit he dug in deep,” Busuttin said.
Having tracked the leader Rosangela throughout, Prince Tycoon powered over the top in the final stages to win by a long neck, with Millenium Blade finishing back in third.
The son of Written Tycoon was bought for $80,000 at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Busuttin and Young in conjunction with First Light Racing. That investment looks well-placed after his polished debut.
“There’s a million-dollar two-year-old race on the Gold Coast in about two weeks, so it’ll be hard to argue against that,” Busuttin added. “But it’s just good to come here and get the job done. They’re always hard to win on a Saturday and they’re hard to win first time to the races.”
Jockey Daniel Moor, who partnered the gelding in his early work and on race day, said there’s still plenty of maturing to come.
“That was critically important, having that association with him before today, because he’s a quicky horse – he’s a big, scopey horse with great ability – but he’s still very much unfinished in his furnishing,” Moor said.
“He’s got a good future. He does need to furnish, he does need to mature, but even off today he may get a little bit further as well.”
