Know Thyself could back-up in Scone Cup after Coasting to a fourth straight win

Posted by RS NewsWire at 7:57pm on May 10th

Ashley Morgan’s dream run continued at Gosford on Saturday as he steered Know Thyself to a convincing win in the $500,000 The Coast (1600m), strengthening his reputation as one of the breakout jockeys of the season.

After recent headline wins aboard Private Harry in the Sunlight and the Galaxy, and Matcha Latte in the $1 million Provincial-Midway Championships Final, Morgan made the most of a late call-up on Saturday when Aaron Bullock was unable to make the weight on Know Thyself.

“It’s Aaron’s horse and he’s done all the hard work. I was just benefitting because I can get a bit lighter,” Morgan said post-race.

“He’s a lovely horse. He was begging for a bum in the run. He really switched off outside the lead.

“I got to Rach (King on leader Townsend) early but I just had to work at him and trust he was fit and he was going to see the mile out well.”

The $2.70 betting favourite showed his class, responding strongly to challengers in the straight and finishing a length clear of Depth Of Character ($4.60), with Mare Of Mt Buller ($9) running third.

Know Thyself’s winning streak now sits at four, and connections are contemplating a tilt at the Scone Cup, where he would get the chance to shine on home turf.

“That (win) will definitely get him in,” said trainer Paul Messara. “The horse comes first and we’ll just see how he comes through today. It was a solid run today and we want to make sure he’s one hundred per cent before we make that decision.”

“We might have a wet week this week in Scone so if it’s a heavy track, we might be tempted to go around.”

With the Scone Cup worth $200,000 and momentum on Know Thyself’s side, punters should keep an eye on betting markets. For top racing odds and bonus offers, be sure to explore our full betting sites list.
