BRC Sprint and Stradbroke Handicap aims for War Machine

Lindsay Park’s Queensland carnival stocks have soared following a stellar day at Caulfield, where the Hayes brothers notched up a treble with runners that could soon be on the Sunshine State stage.

Victories by War Machine, Madiyya, and longshot Angry Skies gave the stable plenty of reason to smile, with two of those wins almost certainly booking spots in Brisbane targets.

War Machine, now under the care of Ben, Will, and JD Hayes, produced a powerful finish to win over 1400m. The stable confirmed a Queensland campaign is locked in, with the BRC Sprint and Stradbroke Handicap now firmly in view.

“We’re just so fortunate to be given this horse to train and he’s been a pleasure,” Ben Hayes said.

“He’s been in the system nearly two weeks now and arrived to us in good condition.

“He’s an exciting horse heading up to Queensland now, we’ll look to run in the BRC Sprint in two weeks’ time and hopefully he can get qualified to run in the Stradbroke.”

The gelding, backed into $1.90 favourite, defeated Jimmy The Bear ($26) by more than a length, while Oscar’s Fortune ($14) stuck on for third.

Talented filly Madiyya also continued to impress, winning over 1400m in a fillies benchmark 70. The Super Seth three-year-old is yet to be confirmed for Brisbane, but a crack at the Fred Best Classic is on the table.

“There’s a race called the Fred Best (Classic), which is 1400, then a couple of weeks later there’s a mile, but she’s talented and the first thing we’re going to be guided by is how she pulls up,” Will Hayes said.

Out of Ruqqaya, Madiyya is a half to Group 1 winner Grunt and Lindsay Park’s own Zayydani, adding further pedigree to her growing resume.

The treble was rounded out by Angry Skies, who stunned punters with a $41 boilover in the 1600m benchmark 84, following a previous win in the Warracknabeal Cup.

With momentum building into the winter, punters can track Lindsay Park’s contenders across the carnival via early markets on the BRC Sprint and Stradbroke Handicap. Visit our betting sites guide for the best platforms to wager with.
