The Map is back and chasing Melbourne Cup spot in 2025 Andrew Ramsden Stakes
The Map, trained by South Australia's Dan Clarken and Oopy MacGillivray, is set to return to the track after a brief retirement and an unsuccessful sale attempt.
Having secured a berth in the Melbourne Cup through her victory in the Andrew Ramsden Stakes, The Map was retired earlier this year and offered at the Chairman’s Sale in Sydney. She was passed in, not meeting the $200,000 reserve price.
Clarken stated, “We gave her the opportunity to become a broodmare, and someone might have come along and offered $300,000 or $400,000 for her. That didn’t happen, and she got passed in.”
Impressed by her energy at the sale, the trainers decided to bring her back into training. “We both went up and we were happy to see her really up and about and she really got wired up out the back,” Clarken said. “We thought if she was walking around like an old broodmare, we’d probably let her go.”
