All smiles after WA Sires’ Produce Stakes success

After two narrow defeats in feature races, Just Too Fly delivered at Ascot on Saturday with a tough victory in the Group 3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m).

Finishing second in both the Perth Stakes (1100m) and Karrakatta Plate (1200m), the colt showed grit to edge past Snitzalatte late and fend off Fila Mia and Statewide.

Ridden positively by Brad Parnham, the son of Justify gave Luke Fernie another stakes success and managing owner Kim Doak a well-earned moment of celebration.

“He really wanted to have a go at this particular horse and to be fair, I thought we were no chance,” said Doak of Fernie’s early interest in the colt.

“We couldn’t stop laughing, like little kids giggling on how lucky we’d been.”

Just Too Fly was a $210,000 purchase at Inglis Classic, now pushing past $246,000 in prizemoney.

Doak credited Fernie’s judgment and passion as key to their success, while Parnham collected his third Sires win after guiding Talkanco to Karrakatta Plate glory earlier in the carnival.

“He is lovely, and we definitely won that one on class alone,” said Parnham.

Doak indicated the colt is likely to target the Guineas route in his upcoming preparation.
