Royal Ascot winner out to turn form around in the 2025 Luskin Star Stakes
Chris Waller isn’t ready to give up on Age Of Kings, even though the once-promising import has yet to fire on Australian soil.
A winner of the Group 3 Jersey Stakes (1408m) at Royal Ascot in 2023, Age Of Kings arrived with a lofty reputation and was considered a Golden Eagle prospect. But six unplaced local starts, including a last in the Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) last time out, have seen his stocks plummet.
Nevertheless, Waller remains patient, believing there’s still untapped potential in the son of Kingman.
“Age Of Kings is a work in progress,” Waller said.
“He has just lost confidence. He has got a few little issues that we are slowly getting on top of and once we get there, I’m sure he can be running in better races.”
Stablemate Chrysaor shapes as a more reliable contender in the upcoming Luskin Star Stakes (1300m). The consistent gelding has a solid fresh record, including a Listed win first-up at Flemington last campaign, and heads to Scone after two barrier trials.
“He won at Flemington last prep first-up over 1400 metres, he has drawn well and it’s the right type of race for him,” Waller said
“He will run really well.”
Rory Hutchings will pilot Chrysaor at 56kg, while Kerrin Mcevoy will team up again with Age Of Kings.
