Comfort Me a ‘ripper’ for Radford, ready for 2025 Belmont Sprint
As he approaches nine years of age, Comfort Me shows no signs of slowing down and will line up once again in Saturday’s prestigious Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) at Belmont Park.
With a career highlighted by a Group 3 victory, three Group 1 seconds, and over $1.6 million in earnings, Comfort Me has been a model of consistency for trainer Rhys Radford. This weekend, he’ll tackle a star-studded field from barrier 20 — a challenge Radford accepts with quiet confidence.
“He’s never taken a backward step throughout his whole life,” Radford told Tabradio. “He’s still showing all the signs that he loves racing. That’s all we need to keep going.”
Following two modest efforts in the Roma Cup and The Joey, Comfort Me produced a strong third in the Northam Stakes, suggesting he’s coming to peak condition.
“He was solid at Northam and pulled up great. His final gallop on Wednesday was excellent,” Radford said. “I just wish we drew a better gate.”
Holly Watson stays aboard for what could be one of Comfort Me’s last tilts at a major race, although Radford insists retirement isn’t in sight just yet.
