Pride Of Jenni ready to soar in 2025 Doomben Cup
Pride Of Jenni has touched down in Brisbane and is settling in nicely ahead of her Group 1 assignment in the Doomben Cup this Saturday.
Assistant trainer Jack Turnbull reported the mare handled her flight from Victoria well, hitting the treadmill for a light workout early Wednesday as she adjusts to her new surroundings.
“She had a big drink after arriving and we gave her a light canter on the treadmill, followed by a bit of grass. It was all very routine,” Turnbull said.
Pride Of Jenni comes into the 2000m weight-for-age contest off a strong performance at Caulfield earlier this month, and her team has kept her ticking over with treadmill gallops and a hit-out under Craig Newitt.
“She had two controlled gallops on the treadmill and a nice piece of work with Craig on Monday,” Turnbull said. “She’s maintained her fitness beautifully — it’s just about fine-tuning now.”
With her bloods returning clear and no travel issues apparent, confidence in the stable is growing.
“She’s older and experienced with travel, and everything so far has been ideal,” said Turnbull. “Now it’s just about staying on track into Saturday.”
The inside barrier could prove crucial, especially if the Doomben surface gets wet, conditions which Pride Of Jenni relishes.
“She’s drawn barrier one, which suits her racing style, and if the rain hits, she won’t be bothered — she has the wet form,” Turnbull added. “Antino is drawn wider and that might give us an edge.”
