Lane plans a bossy end to 2025 Belmont Sprint
Trainer Michael Lane is confident The Boss Lady can deliver a strong performance in Saturday’s Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) before heading to the paddock in preparation for the Ascot carnival later this year.
After a successful start to her campaign in the Roma Cup (1100m), the mare finished sixth in the Quokka (1200m) and then closed well for fifth behind West Star in the Northam Stakes (1300m).
“I was a little disappointed with her final 50 metres last start, but maybe I’m being too critical,” Lane said. “She got too far back and still ran on nicely.”
West Star is the $2.80 favourite for the Belmont Sprint, followed by Western Empire ($4.80) and The Boss Lady ($7.50), who has drawn ideally in gate six.
“She’s got a good draw and if she can settle closer, I think she’s a big chance,” Lane said. “She’s had a good campaign and we want to finish it off strongly.”
With regular rider Joe Azzopardi committed to Triple Missile, Shaun McGruddy takes the reins on The Boss Lady this weekend.
Lane also expects a forward showing from Six Shooter, who resumes in race six following a recent Pinjarra win.
