Chris Bieg ready to Annihilate Murray Bridge
Chris Bieg is upbeat ahead of Murray Bridge on Saturday, with several stable runners poised for strong efforts—none more so than in-form galloper Annihilate in the Mulch N More Handicap (1400m).
Annihilate, a last-start winner over 1600m at Morphettville, drops back in trip but maintains top form. Bieg says everything has gone to plan in the lead-up.
“This is the perfect race for Annihilate,” Bieg said. “We’ve kept him fresh with beach work and spaced his runs. He’s happy and thriving.”
Voltage Point joins his stablemate in the same race after placing at Morphettville last weekend. Bieg is using the quick backup as a tactic to help him settle.
“He’s been a bit aggressive in his runs, so we’re hoping last week’s race has taken the edge off,” he said. “If not, we’ll try him back at 1200 metres next time.”
Race favourite Sachem is $6, with Annihilate at $6.50 and Voltage Point at $8 in a wide-open betting affair.
Bieg also saddles Tripod Terror in the Prime Irrigation Handicap (1200m). The $6 chance has been ultra-consistent, finishing in the top three at each of his past five starts.
“He’s had a few issues earlier but is flying now,” Bieg said. “He should’ve won the Magic Millions race in March, so hopefully he gets some luck this time.”
Overstrike is Bieg’s other runner on the day, and the trainer is hopeful a gear change and new rider in Justin Potter will unlock improvement.
