Storm Boy set for Irish debut in 2025 Greenlands Stakes

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:21pm on May 23rd

Australian export Storm Boy will make his European debut from the outside barrier in the Group 2 Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh, set to be run just after midnight Sunday AEST.

Now in the care of Aidan O’Brien, the Coolmore-owned colt was a top-class juvenile in Australia, winning the Magic Millions 2YO Classic and placing in the Golden Slipper before finishing eighth in The Everest last spring.

Storm Boy has been installed in barrier nine for the 1207-metre sprint, with Ryan Moore to take the ride. The Greenlands Stakes is expected to act as his lead-up to the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.

He earned a peak Timeform figure of 119 for his Everest performance, a touch higher than the 118 he posted in his San Domenico Stakes win. That puts him on par with Lethal Levi, his top-rated rival this weekend.

Other challengers include My Mate Alfie, Iberian, and Grand Grey, though none are currently shorter than $21 in early Jubilee Stakes betting. Storm Boy is priced at $8 in most UK betting markets, behind leading fancy Lazzat.

With his European career set to begin, Saturday’s race (12:05am AEST) will serve as a critical stepping stone for Storm Boy’s Royal Ascot ambitions.
