Lane’s bossy declaration: ‘the best is yet to come.’
From a winning start in the Roma Cup (1100m) to a commanding finale in the Group 3 Belmont Sprint (1400m), The Boss Lady has delivered a near-flawless campaign for trainer Michael Lane.
The Belmont Sprint win at Pinjarra was her third stakes success, adding to her record that includes the Listed Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m), taking her tally to 11 wins from 20 runs and closing in on $1 million in prize earnings.
Jockey Shaun McGruddy guided her to a narrow win over Magnificent Andy and West Star, continuing her impressive record in weight-for-age events.
Michael Lane believes the mare is still on the rise. “I always said she would get better with age,” he told Tabradio. “I’ve got no doubt in my mind. I don’t think she’s at her peak yet.”
“She’s grown a lot in herself… it wouldn’t surprise me if she came back a bit better next prep,” he added, confident that her ceiling hasn’t yet been reached.
Lane ruled out an interstate campaign for now, confirming she will be aimed at the Winterbottom Stakes and Gold Rush later this year. “Definitely staying home for the moment,” he said.
Lane also acknowledged the shift of the Belmont Sprint to Pinjarra helped his mare. “She’d rather be on the fresh side... and she felt enormous on Monday,” he said.
It was a memorable day for Lane who also secured victory in race nine with Six Shooter.
