Riordan aims for 2025 Strickland Stakes success
Triple Missile has shown time and again that he’s a consistent performer, with eight wins from 32 starts and recent form that includes victory in the Bunbury Stakes (1400m). Now under the guidance of Donna Riordan, the seven-year-old takes on a new test this Saturday at Pinjarra.
He'll step up to 2000m for the first time in the Group 3 Strickland Stakes, marking a notable shift in distance for a horse known for his sprinting prowess.
Riordan believes the gelding’s racing style will lend itself well to the longer trip.
“I’ll think he’ll get it,” she said on Tabradio. “He’s never done it before, I know, but just the way he races and how economical he is. I think he should get it.”
His effort in the Hyperion Stakes over 1600m showed promise, finishing third after coming from the rear, and giving Riordan confidence to stick with the plan for the Strickland.
“We were always going to go this way,” she said. “I like to see him stretch out and see what he can do.”
Drawn in barrier two with Joe Azzopardi aboard, Triple Missile is well positioned for his staying debut.
