Mollynickers ready to pounce at Flemington
Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman are hoping Mollynickers can return to winning ways on Saturday as she lines up in the Brian Beattie Handicap (1420m) at Flemington, dropping back to mares’ company after a strong campaign against the boys.
The stable, along with apprentice Luke Cartwright, have been in top form recently and will look to continue that run with the four-year-old mare.
“Her last couple of runs have been super,” Coleman said. “She’s going to the race in good order. It’s a good race on form, but she was up against the boys last start and ran well.”
Mollynickers earned valuable Stakes placings last season in the The Vanity and Kewney Stakes and finished fourth in the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes in the spring.
After winning at Geelong in January, she resumed with two seconds at Caulfield and Sandown.
“She was honest and brave, so you can’t be too disheartened by that,” Coleman said. “But she’s at that mark in her races now where she needs everything to fall her way.”
With the benefit of a 3kg claim, Mollynickers will carry just 55kg this weekend.
