Oaklands Plate a possibility for Millennium Blade

The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr yard are planning to stretch Millennium Blade out to 1400m as they push for the colt’s first win before the season concludes.
Millennium Blade appears in the nominations for Saturday’s TAB We’re On (1420m) at Flemington, one of 11 entries, though a switch to the Listed Oaklands Plate (1400m) at Morphettville Parks is also being considered.
“I’ve got to have a talk to the owners to see which way they want to go,” Kent Jr said.
The two-year-old has raced twice at Caulfield, finishing third over 1100m behind Prince Tycoon before a close second over 1200m to Salty Pearl.
“His two runs have been good,” Kent Jr said.
“We felt last start he got to the front very early in the straight and wobbled left and right and was a sitting duck for Salty Pearl to get up on his inside and just beat him.”
“When he caught sight of her on his inside, he really challenged again late and there was a good margin back to third.”
“He’s trained on well and the way he came off the bridle early in that race, and was strong at the post, indicated to us that he should get 1400 metres.”
“He is still a maiden, but he’s a nice colt that has done everything right between runs.”
“I think Observer looks particularly hard to beat as does Patrick Payne’s horse (Buccleuch), but he’s definitely in the mix if that’s the way we go.”
Kent Jr cautions that evaluating the colt’s staying ability this winter is still a work in progress.
Should he run at Flemington, the Listed Taj Rossi Series Final (1600m) on July 5 is a logical next step.
“It is only his first racing preparation, so whether he keeps training on, that will be the question with him, but we will learn more from Saturday if we go that way,” Kent Jr said.
“Saturday could be a bit of a D‑day for him.”
