Coeur Volante chases Mike Moroney dream in 2025 Tattersall’s Tiara
Before his passing, Mike Moroney had high hopes for Coeur Volante, backing her to eventually claim a Group 1 prize.
Her run in the Thousand Guineas didn’t yield a win, but finishing behind horses like Joliestar, Kimochi, and Skybird speaks volumes of her quality.
Her last win came in the Mannerism Stakes, giving Moroney a fitting send-off before his unexpected death days later.
Now under the guidance of Ben, Will & Jd Hayes, she’s set to tackle Saturday’s Tattersall’s Tiara following a modest return in the Helen Coughlan Stakes.
“We are very happy with how she’s progressed out of her first-up run,” trainer Will Hayes said.
“We were seven weeks between runs, not by design, just with the floods and the weather up there, we couldn’t get a run into her.
“But she has tightened up nicely and we expect her to run a forward race.”
Barrier 20 won’t make things easy, though she could slide into 15 if emergencies come out. Jordan Childs retains the ride.
War Machine gave Lindsay Park a Group 1 win earlier this month in the Stradbroke Handicap, and they’ll hope for lightning to strike twice with another of Moroney’s former stable stars.
