Shailer’s carnival of quality out for more in the 2025 Winx Guineas

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:16pm on July 1st

Paul Shailer is on the verge of capping off a breakout Queensland racing carnival with victory in the Winx Guineas this weekend, led by stable standout Mister Bianco.

Shailer has had a successful few months, highlighted by Isti Star’s million-dollar win in the Magic Millions National Classic (1200m), a top-three finish in the Rough Habit Plate (2000m) with Deep Focus, and a string of solid performances from Mister Bianco.

“He’s taken the Ipswich win in his stride and continues to train on well,” said Shailer. “He’s always had the talent but needed time to mature mentally. We’ve worked hard to bring him on slowly and he’s hit his straps at the right time.”

Mister Bianco is currently the $3 favourite for Saturday’s Group 3 event over 1600m, with Mille De Lune not far behind in the market at $4.50.

Owned in part by Peter Tighe, who also raced the great Winx, there’s emotional weight behind chasing success in a race that bears her name.

Shailer credits the stable’s turnaround to strong recruitment and long-term thinking. “You need the cattle,” he said. “We’ve been lucky to work with some nice horses and we’re focused on continuing to improve.”

Looking ahead, two-year-old Isti Star is slated to resume work next week and will target the Cap D’Antibes Stakes (1100m) and Scarborough Stakes (1200m) ahead of another Magic Millions campaign.
