Star searching for feature sprint win in the Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final 2025
John Moloney has put faith in his mare Hearcomesthestar by nominating her for Saturday’s Listed Santa Ana Lane Sprint Series Final, a move prompted by a thinner than usual entry list.
Although the four-year-old lines up as the outsider, her five wins and five placings from 21 starts make her a sneaky contender, especially with conditions to suit.
Moloney believes her recent fourth at Flemington in a benchmark 90 was an underrated performance.
“When she ran fourth at Flemington last start in the benchmark 90, they didn’t run that much slower than they did in the straight six handicap,” he said.
“If you scale it back on weights and measures, which everyone likes to do, it means she would have been competitive in that under the weight scale that she’ll carry – 54 kilos – on Saturday.”
Hearcomesthestar has performed well on soft tracks and Moloney is confident she can handle the 1200m assignment.
“She’s in good order, so why not?” the trainer said.
Marble Nine, trained by Leon and Troy Corstens alongside Will Larkin, is the $3.20 favourite and brings winning momentum into the race.
