Bridal Waltz upsets She’s An Artist in 2025 Creswick Stakes

In a stunning form reversal, Bridal Waltz claimed a well-earned win in the Listed Creswick Stakes (1200m) at Flemington, turning around a big defeat to odds-on favourite She’s An Artist just two weeks ago.
Sent out at $13, the filly led all the way under jockey Ben Melham to score by ¾ of a length over the heavily backed $1.30 betting favourite. Duchess Zou filled third place, finishing 1-1/2 lengths behind the runner-up.
Trainer Peter Moody, who shares duties with Katherine Coleman, said the filly’s preparation this time made all the difference.
“She did very well post Adelaide so we sort of decided that she went into that (last run) probably slightly underdone,” Moody said.
“She was ready to peak today but obviously respectful of the two that beat her coming here from the other day, but we thought we were in the wrong part of the track.”
He added, “We were quietly confident we could turn it around, we just had to hope the favourite maybe wasn’t as good as the hype.”
Moody believes the win has increased her value significantly, with stakes races in the spring now on the radar.
“She’s from a great family. Her sister She Dances was sold earlier in the year and we’ve got a nice two-year-old at home as well,” he said.
Melham was thrilled with the performance and the chance to get one over his wife Jamie, who rode the beaten favourite.
“A fair chance of sleeping in the spare room, I would imagine,” Melham laughed. “She just gave me everything when I needed it.”
