The Three Hundred too good in Winx Guineas 2025
Returning to the winners’ circle, The Three Hundred found everything falling into place to secure the Group 3 Winx Guineas at the Sunshine Coast’s major race day.
Waterhouse and Bott’s gelding had been frustrating punters in previous runs, but Angela Jones’ aggressive ride and a sharp start proved decisive over the 1600m test.
Jones, fresh off two earlier wins and riding before serving a suspension, received glowing praise from Neil Payne of the stable.
“She rode him beautifully and she’s got really nice hands on a horse so it was a pleasure to have her on and ride a winner for the Waterhouse and Bott stable,” Payne said.
“The problem with this horse is that he’s a bugger at the machines. We told Ang to keep him warmed up and if he jumps to put him right into the race.
“Over the last one or two starts, he was slowly away and he gets back and starts to lose interest. I was really happy when he jumped and Ang kept pushing forward.”
The $11 chance defeated Ramp It Up ($31) by 1½ lengths, with Apuntar ($6) finishing third, extending The Three Hundred’s record to three wins from 13 runs.
Cranbourne trainers Lloyd Kennewell and Lucy Yeomans celebrated a feature win too, with Fortunate Kiss ($26) saluting in the Listed Glasshouse Handicap, building on strong runs in the Wangoom and Eye Liner Stakes.
