Pounding on the quick back-up in 2025 VOBIS Gold Heath

Posted by RS NewsWire at 7:54pm on July 10th

Reliable gelding Pounding will chase a much-deserved win when he tackles Saturday’s VOBIS Gold Heath (2000m) at Caulfield, with rich rewards on offer for his connections.

Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, Pounding has banked more than $63,000 this campaign and now races for nearly $100,000 in stakes plus a $30,000 bonus in the VOBIS feature.

He comes off a fifth-place effort in the Listed Winter Championship Final (1600m) at Flemington and stretches back to 2000m for the first time since last July.

“He loves a seven-day back-up, so it was always the plan,” Moody said.

“It’s a VOBIS race and he’s amongst his own again this week.

“He arguably should have the other day as he didn’t get a crack at them until late, but it sets him up well for this one.”

Pounding will again clash with Jimmy The Bear, though meets that runner worse off at the weights.

“He’s got Jimmy The Bear to contend with again, but a different one seems to win each week,” Moody said.

“He’s in good order and hopefully it’s our turn on Saturday.

“He’s been consistent throughout his career, and he’s won $60,000 this campaign without winning a race and won over $1.4 million overall.

“You would like three or four of them in the yard, as he’s always a chance every time he runs.”

Instead of aiming for the early weight-for-age races in Victoria, Moody is eyeing a return to country features like the Sale Cup, which the gelding claimed last spring.

Punters looking for a dependable runner in Saturday’s Caulfield program should consider Pounding as a betting contender in the VOBIS Gold Heath.
