Successful season set to continue for training partners Charlton and O'Shea

As their first full season draws to a close, John O’Shea and Tom Charlton have every reason to be proud of a highly productive year, highlighted by consistent metro form and three Group 1 victories.

Since teaming up in July 2023, the duo has chalked up 35 city winners and major wins including the William Reid Stakes with Schwarz, the Randwick Guineas with Linebacker, and the Queensland Derby with Maison Louis.

“It wasn’t a massive change but it is one I have thoroughly enjoyed and I’m very lucky,” Charlton said.

“Three different Group 1 winners and strong numbers across the board—it’s been a fantastic season.”

At Randwick, they may saddle five runners, with Getafix a headline act in the TAB Handicap (1400m), pending a scratching to secure his place as second emergency.

“He’s got serious ability,” Charlton said. “He was one of our Golden Rose hopefuls, and his win at Kensington showed what he can do when things go right.”

Charlton is also optimistic about Captain Amelia’s chances in the final race, provided she can get a cleaner run than she did at Rosehill.

“She never got into the race last time, but back to Randwick she could be very competitive,” he said.
