Scampi to be set for 2025 Quezette Stakes
Craig Williams helped power Ciaron Maher’s stable to a dominant start at Caulfield with consecutive wins that closed the gap in the jockeys’ premiership standings.
Williams first piloted odds-on favourite Signature Scent to a polished win in the Sportsbet Get On Now Handicap (1100m), before returning aboard Scampi in the following race to complete the double.
Both runners were presented by Maher’s in-form team, and post-race, stable representative Leigh Allen hinted at bigger goals for the unbeaten Signature Scent.
“She’s done nothing wrong so far and we’re eyeing the Quezette Stakes next month. She has a big future,” Allen said.
The two-year-old settled comfortably and displayed her turn of foot to reel in the leaders late, showcasing her adaptability and racing temperament.
Allen added that the team was still waiting on gene testing to determine her ideal racing profile.
In the next event, Scampi turned his consistent midweek form into Saturday success, hanging on to beat Salsa Fellow in a strong performance.
“He’s been a bit of a mystery, but he delivered today when it counted,” Allen commented. “Craig rated him perfectly.”
Williams’ performance put pressure on leader Blake Shinn in the premiership race with the season closing in.
