Sydney mare In Flight too good in 2025 Sir John Monash Stakes
Sydney-based trainer Joe Pride is already mapping out a Group 1 campaign for In Flight following her confident display in the Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.
Facing Victorian opposition for the first time, In Flight, piloted by Craig Williams, came from off the pace to claim her third consecutive win and further enhance her credentials.
The $2.50 betting favourite swooped past New York Lustre ($10) and Recommendation ($8) to win by a comfortable length.
Pride suggested the mare could target top-line sprints like the Oakleigh Plate and The Galaxy in the coming autumn.
“She’s handled everything we’ve asked of her and continues to step up,” Pride said. “She’s suited to those fast-run 1100m races.”
Despite a wide trip, Williams said In Flight still had plenty in the tank at the finish.
“She copes well with give in the ground and today’s firmer track didn’t faze her either,” Williams noted. “She’s still learning and improving.”
Pride admitted that managing her spring campaign would be a balancing act, as the mare is showing signs she could benefit from a break before her next campaign.
“She’s already done plenty this prep,” he said. “Winning across three states tells you a lot about her grit and versatility.”
In Flight’s rapid progression through the ranks makes her an exciting prospect for punters and a watchlist horse on major betting platforms.
