Honest gelding perfect Choice for trainer Richard Litt

It took some trial and error, but trainer Richard Litt says the penny has finally dropped with Romeo’s Choice—and the durable campaigner now heads to Rosehill with confidence for Saturday’s Schweppes Sprint (1100m).
Fresh from a strong first-up win on July 2 at Warwick Farm, the gelding returns in search of back-to-back victories, and he’ll do so with proven versatility on all surfaces—something his trainer didn’t always believe.
“For the first half of his life I would never run him on a wet track because I didn’t think he handled it and then one day I thought, bugger it, we’ll send him around at Canterbury,” Litt recalled.
“It was a heavy ten and he won by three lengths so I thought, I’ve been reading the play wrong here.
“He does seem to like any sort of ground. He is the ultimate racehorse.”
Tough and ultra-consistent, Romeo’s Choice has raced 36 times for six wins and 15 placings, banking almost $400,000. He’s still chasing a first Rosehill win, but his 1100m record there—five placings from six attempts—says he handles the circuit.
He closed his last prep with a Saturday victory, and Litt says punters can count on a committed effort every time.
“He turns up, he tries very hard. He is incredibly loyal and tough. He always gives you 110 per cent,” he said.
“It’s obviously a massive step up in grade for him. But he is a lovely horse.
“He won in town last start, albeit midweek, and he won a Saturday race before that.
“He definitely won’t be the worst horse in that race.”
The betting picture was wide open as of Thursday, with online bookmakers listing Corniche, Storm The Ramparts and South Of India as $6 equal favourites, while Romeo’s Choice was quoted at $13.
