Maher juvenile Without Peer in Rosehill races win

Posted by RS NewsWire at 2:45pm on July 19th

Without Peer lived up to his name at Rosehill on Saturday, storming home from the rear of the field to score a debut win in the Traffic Warden @ Darley Handicap (1200m).

Jockey Chad Schofield was impressed by the Ciaron Maher-trained colt’s performance, noting his greenness in the run but raw ability to win regardless.

“He just won today on pure, raw ability so that’s very exciting going forward,” Schofield said.

“When he quickened with me early in the straight, I was very confident.”

At $11 odds, the colt wasn’t expected to win, with Maher’s Sydney representative Johann Gerard-Dubord noting they were surprised but thrilled by the result.

“He’s still got a lot of maturing to do physically and mentally, so that’s a bonus today,” Gerard-Dubord said.

“He’ll improve with racing, and we’ll space his runs to let him develop.”

Reflect ($14) closed well to claim third, suggesting she too has more to offer this campaign.
