Country gelding Knights Armour wins at Rosehill races

Rebecca Bronett Prag experienced a career highlight at Rosehill on Saturday when she partnered Knights Armour to a breakthrough Saturday metro win, marking a significant step in her riding career.
Apprenticed to Canberra trainer Keith Dryden, the Swedish-born jockey was having just her 20th ride in town, with her only other metropolitan victory also coming aboard Knights Armour during a midweek event at Warwick Farm.
She wasn’t sure she had secured the win in a close finish but was thrilled when the result was confirmed.
“I wasn’t sure that I got it but it’s very special, especially on this horse that I’ve had a lot of luck with,” Bronett Prag said.
“This is our fifth win together now so it’s great and especially for the owner who only trains one horse and is doing a fantastic job with him.”
Trainer and part-owner Ross Lavis, based in Braidwood, also acts as Knights Armour’s strapper and said he believed the six-year-old had the stamina to handle the 2400m trip of the Mostyn Cooper Handicap, despite it being his first attempt at the distance.
Racing as a $12 chance, Knights Armour fought hard in the closing stages to defeat Good Banter ($4.80) by a half-length with Fioprospero ($6) another length behind in third place.
Bronett Prag, who began riding in picnic pony races in Sweden, came to Australia 10 years ago in pursuit of more racing experience and has since made the country her permanent home and workplace.
Now close to out-riding her country claim, she’s hopeful this milestone will lead to further city opportunities in the near future.
“I have almost outridden my claim in the country so I am starting to get a few opportunities and I’ll see where it will take me,” she said.
