Gringotts aiming for return in the 2025 Winx Stakes

The talented Gringotts is back in training and showing all the signs that he’s poised for his best campaign yet as he gears up for a spring return.
The rising six-year-old enjoyed an exceptional run last spring, taking out both the Big Dance (1600m) and The Gong (1600m), before returning in the autumn to add the George Ryder Stakes (1500m) to his resume, beating some elite competitors in Fangirl and Ceolwulf.
He wrapped up his last campaign with a strong performance in the Doncaster Mile, finishing within two lengths of the winner. Stable representative Johann Gerard-Dubord says Gringotts has come back even better than before.
“Gringotts looks outstanding,” Gerard-Dubord said.
“Every prep he looks better but he has come back stronger again and just looks so healthy.”
Set to trial soon at Gosford or Warwick Farm, Gringotts is being aimed at the Winx Stakes (1400m) to launch his spring campaign on August 23.
The team is steering away from the Epsom Handicap (1600m) due to potential weight concerns but has earmarked the King Charles III Stakes (1600m) as a key carnival target, with an eye also on the Champions Mile in Melbourne.
“He will likely start in the Winx Stakes and a race like the King Charles would be a nice race for him,” he said.
Gringotts is a son of Per Incanto, who also sired stablemate and fellow Group 1 winner Jimmysstar, who triumphed in the All Aged Stakes.
Jimmysstar is on track to trial in early August as connections seek a spot in the The Everest (1200m), one of the world’s richest sprints.
“He’s got the right credentials. He’s done a good job, he has done well at Randwick so I think he deserves one,” Gerard-Dubord said of Jimmysstar.
“He is still a bit wintery but he is a lot stronger. He looks like a real sprinter now.”
According to Gerard-Dubord, horses by Per Incanto tend to flourish with age, a trait typical of their New Zealand heritage.
“They’re horses where, if you don’t rush them early, you usually get rewarded later,” he said.
