Brad Widdup's colt a Jack out of the box
Nashville Jack will attempt to justify trainer Brad Widdup’s high opinion of him when he resumes in the Keenland September Yearling Sale Handicap (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday. A bold showing could see the colt return to black-type company during the spring carnival.
“You always hope they come back the way you think they will, but you only really know once they race,” Widdup said. “I’m hopeful he can show he’s up to better races.”
The colt, by 2020 Golden Slipper winner Farnan, caught the eye as a juvenile when placing in both the Silver Slipper and Black Opal Stakes. Widdup noted that his Black Opal run was particularly courageous after a shoe shifted mid-race.
“It was a big effort to finish as close as he did,” Widdup said. “He’s come back stronger, has trialled well, and is ready to go.”
With Jason Collett to ride from barrier two, Widdup says Nashville Jack is a straightforward, athletic horse who will continue to improve with racing.
He faces a strong field including Pierro Plate winner Shaggy and the progressive filly Nazwah, and punters can find markets for the race on leading betting sites.
