Ole Dancer could be set for the 2025 Thousand Guineas

Posted by RS NewsWire at 3:21pm on July 26th

Unbeaten filly Ole Dancer continued her perfect start to racing with a courageous victory in Saturday’s $150,000 Senet Gambling Law Expert 2YO Handicap at Caulfield. Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, the exciting prospect is being considered for a spring campaign, although Moody admits the major races may come a touch too soon for her.

“I think she’s a lovely filly and I think she’s got the ability to be running in Spring races but whether she has the maturity will probably be the question mark,” Moody said. “If she got to a race like the Thousand Guineas she’d probably get there on one run. She’s that type of filly, she won’t need a lot of racing due to lack of maturity. So, she’s still got a lot of growth ahead of her, but you’re only a three-year-old filly in the Spring once.”

Making her first appearance since a debut win at Murray Bridge on March 8, Ole Dancer once again showed maturity beyond her experience. By Vinery’s leading first-season sire Ole Kirk, the filly produced a determined finish under jockey Blake Shinn to record a one-length win over Thanks Gorgeous ($6.50), with Shystar ($9) finishing third. Former Blue Diamond Stakes contender Cherish Me ($5.50) was a disappointing sixth.

Shinn, who is closing in on another Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership title, praised Ole Dancer’s courage. “It was instinctive from her point of view and it was very impressive, because she took the gap and was very brave in doing so and then knuckled down well,” he said. “She did it at her first run at Murray Bridge, she showed good ring craft even though she’s relatively young, and she’s got a bright future ahead of her.”

The win also helped Shinn extend his lead in the premiership standings to eight wins with fewer than two meetings remaining. Those looking to follow Ole Dancer in her next start can find competitive odds at leading betting sites.
