Exit out to cement 2025 Thousand Guineas credentials
Promising filly Exit will continue her preparation at Flemington this weekend, with the Ciaron Maher yard looking to give her further experience before targeting spring features.
Exit resumed with a stylish victory over 1300m at Sandown on July 16 and is likely to contest a benchmark 70 race over 1400m for three-year-olds this Saturday.
The performance was just her second career start, her debut coming in February’s Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield over 1100m, where she finished ninth.
Maher’s National Assistant Trainer Jack Turnbull believes Saturday’s race is a logical next step as they map out a path towards feature events like the Thousand Guineas.
“We’ve always had a good opinion of her,” Turnbull said. “She’s still maturing, but she’s taken the right steps and we’re looking forward to seeing what she can do.”
After late entries were held open until Tuesday, just seven horses were nominated for the Flemington race, with final acceptances to be declared on Wednesday.
Exit is from a strong female line. Her granddam Maybe Discreet was a winner of the Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m) and Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes (1600m), while Too Darn Discreet – another of Maybe Discreet’s daughters – is also nominated to run at Flemington this weekend in the Benchmark 84 Handicap over 1600m.
