Mare gets ready to Rumble Again in Flemington races return

Veteran mare Rumbled Again is set to make her return this weekend, and trainer Michael Trotter believes she’s in career-best condition as she approaches her eighth birthday.

The Flemington-based Victorian Jockeys’ Association Trophy (1410m) on Saturday will mark her first run back, with Trotter hoping to add more Black Type to her résumé after a breakthrough win in the Group 3 Summoned Stakes at Caulfield last spring.

“She’s never looked better,” Trotter said. “She’s bigger, stronger, and happier than I’ve ever seen her. It’s great to have her back in such good shape.”

The mare endured a luckless autumn campaign. After a hamstring injury first-up at Caulfield, she was controversially scratched from a Sydney race before showing her class with a fifth in the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m). Plans for the Golden Mile (1600m) at Bendigo were ruined when she was galloped on, sustaining a serious cut to her fetlock.

“It was a disaster of a prep. She was right in the race at Bendigo before the incident, and once we saw the gash, it made sense why she didn’t finish off,” Trotter said.

Rumbled Again has had two Flemington jump-outs, the latest at Cranbourne on Monday, and will be ridden by Harry Coffey. Trotter is eyeing the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in September as a major target later in the spring.
