Jason Collett continues late season form surge at Warwick Farm races
In a fitting end to a stellar season, jockey Jason Collett rode a treble at Warwick Farm’s final metropolitan meeting of the racing year. Collett partnered Fairway Star in the MyPlates Handicap (1600m) for Bjorn Baker before scoring aboard Prima Bella for Matt Smith in the Headwater @ Vinery Stud Handicap (1000m) and The Replicant for Joe Pride in the last race of the day.
The Warwick Farm treble followed Collett’s four-win haul at Randwick last weekend and saw him finish a clear second on the Sydney jockeys’ premiership with 74 winners, trailing only James McDonald on 83. Collett’s 2024-25 highlights included his eighth Group 1 success on Stefi Magnetica in the Doncaster Mile (1600m) and a Group 2 victory on Fangirl in February’s Apollo Stakes (1400m).
“It’s been a fantastic year, and I’m grateful for the opportunities on quality horses,” Collett said. “I’m keen to keep building on that heading into the new season.”
Two-year-old Tambeloa also created headlines earlier on the card, winning the Keenland September Yearling Sale Handicap (1600m) for trainer Kristen Buchanan. The son of Tagaloa and multiple stakes winner Gamble Me was purchased for $60,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
“He’s a big baby with plenty of upside,” Buchanan said. “He’s going to improve as the distances get longer, and a Derby target one day isn’t out of the question.”
Buchanan said she would assess Tambeloa after the win before deciding whether to continue his preparation or give him a break.
