Speedy Star poised for Rosehill races resumption

Group placegetter Roselyn’s Star is poised for his long-awaited comeback at Rosehill on Saturday in the Congratulations Chris Waller Handicap (1100m). The gelding, who has not raced for twelve months due to growing pains, has drawn the outside barrier but will benefit from the services of champion jockey James McDonald.
“His natural racing pattern is to jump quickly and put himself on speed, so the wide draw shouldn’t be a major issue,” co-trainer Tom Charlton said. “He handles rain-affected tracks well, but if conditions become too testing, we’ll consider scratching him to save him for another day.”
Roselyn’s Star made an impression during his first preparation, breaking his maiden at just his second start and then running second to Espionage in the 2024 Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m). Charlton explained that the gelding missed his three-year-old season not because of injury but simply because he needed extra time to mature.
“He was a big, immature horse, so we gave him the time he needed. He’s had a clean preparation this time around with two strong trials and is ready to resume,” Charlton said. “We think he has a bright future and could be a horse for the Magic Millions next year if he continues to progress.”
Charlton and training partner John O’Shea will also saddle up Metaphorically in the Congratulations Braith Nock Handicap (1200m). The lightly raced gelding, a last-start winner, has proven form on soft and heavy ground, and connections are keen to see if he can take the step up to Saturday class. “He’s in terrific form, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he goes at this level,” Charlton said.
