Goodwood winner earmarked for 2025 Golden Eagle bid

Posted by RS NewsWire at 3:35pm on August 2nd

Seagulls Eleven has announced himself as a potential Golden Eagle contender after a tough Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes (1609m) win at the Glorious Goodwood carnival. Trainer Hugo Palmer confirmed Sydney was now a genuine option for the $10 million feature following the gelding’s fighting victory.

The son of Havana Grey, already proven internationally after contesting the Breeders’ Cup in 2023, has demonstrated adaptability across all track conditions. Palmer is excited by the opportunity to campaign him in Australia later this year.

“He’s taken us worldwide and there’s more to come,” Palmer said. “The Golden Eagle has been on the radar—how often do you see a $10 million race? He handled the trip to the Breeders’ Cup really well despite his tricky nature, and he’s a horse who runs well on any surface.”

Palmer indicated that Seagulls Eleven, owned by a syndicate of former Brighton and Hove Albion footballers, could have one more run in Britain—possibly in the City Of York or Celebration Mile—before heading to Sydney for the Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill on November 1.

Seagulls Eleven is not yet listed in early Golden Eagle betting markets, currently headed by Autumn Glow ($3.50) and Lady Shenandoah ($4.50) from the Chris Waller stable, according to betting sites.
