Peter Snowden puts emerging mares on different routes

Peter Snowden has decided to split promising mares Tuileries and Amreekiyah, scratching the former from Randwick to keep the two on separate paths.

The pair were both acceptors for the Chandon Handicap (1400m) on Saturday and while Snowden doesn’t know if he will be able to keep them apart for long, he is happy he has managed it for now.

“They’re two nice fillies so it would be a shame if they have to meet,” Snowden said.

“But they’re on the same sort of path and they’re going to be on that path for a while.

“I will try to keep them apart.

“Luckily, there is a race next week, so I will save one for then.”

Amreekiyah is undefeated in three starts, posting back-to-back provincial wins earlier this year and resuming with a devastating midweek victory at Canterbury when she conceded weight and a start to her rivals.

Snowden was drawn to label the performance as “something special” and senior rider Kerrin Mcevoy has stuck with her as she prepares for her first foray into Saturday grade.

The four-year-old will face just six rivals after the withdrawal of her stablemate in what will be an important next step, with Snowden admitting he isn’t sure where the ceiling lays for either Amreekiyah or Tuileries.

“How far they go I’m not sure. They are doing what they’re doing now and really, they’re still green horses but they’re showing touches of something extra, which is always a good sign,” he said.

“But Amreekiyah’s first-up win was amazing. I think she’s very talented.”

Weights for Saturday’s race are headed by the Bjorn Baker-trained Stardeel who is set to back up from his impressive heavy track win at Rosehill last Saturday.
