Oak Hill races into 2025 Moir Stakes contention
Lindsay Park has unveiled another potential spring contender with Oak Hill launching his Moir Stakes bid in impressive fashion at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
The five-year-old gelding, formerly prepared by the late Mike Moroney, justified his $2.70 favouritism under Blake Shinn, sweeping past Midwest ($5) to win by one-and-a-half lengths, with Boston Rocks ($5) finishing third in the Ladbrokes Top 2/3/4 Betting Handicap (1000m).
Ben Hayes confirmed Oak Hill will remain at The Valley for his next start in the Listed Carlyon Stakes before stepping up to Group 1 company in the Moir Stakes on September 6.
“He’s come to us in terrific order and continues to improve,” Hayes said. “The key today was how well he settled. Earlier in his career he could be a bit fierce, but he’s learning to conserve energy and it showed in how strongly he finished.”
Oak Hill’s record at the circuit now reads four wins and a placing from five starts. He is rated an $11 chance for the Moir Stakes, with Grahame Begg’s Niance the $4 favourite.
Mornington Glory, last year’s Moir Stakes hero, finished at the tail in his return to racing.
