Pallaton poised to bloom in 2025 The Rosebud

Top jockey Tommy Berry is set to reunite with Pallaton in Saturday’s Listed Rosebud (1100m) at Rosehill, aiming to see the colt deliver on his early promise. Berry has previously called Pallaton Michael Freedman’s standout two-year-old colt, a title earned with a dominant debut win at Randwick late last year. While the colt’s next two starts didn’t quite match expectations, Berry said fitness and a minor setback were key factors.
Freedman went on to secure Golden Slipper success with filly Marhoona, but Pallaton has always been considered a stable star in the making. “As an early two-year-old, we thought he was our best colt,” Berry said. “He was his own worst enemy towards the end of his prep.”
This campaign, Pallaton has been fitted with a crossover noseband to improve his racing manners, and the results have been positive. He’s recorded two impressive trial wins, one on heavy ground. “We’ve always held him in very high regard. Saturday’s his chance to show it,” Berry said. Drawn barrier one in a small field, he looks well placed to make a winning return.
Berry will also partner Our Gold Hope in the Captivant @ Kia Ora Handicap (1400m). The mare has proven Group-level form, finishing second in the 2024 Queensland Oaks and third to Ceolwulf in the autumn. Berry is optimistic about her chances after two strong trials and a good draw.
