Grand result in roughhouse 2025 Up And Coming Stakes

Grand Prairie delivered a deserved stakes success in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes at Randwick, though the win was marred by a shocking fall that saw Tyreek and Dylan Gibbons crash through the rail.

The drama unfolded at the 300m when both Providence and Grand Prairie tried to take the same run, with movement from Crown The King and Aerodrome creating a severe squeeze. Providence was bumped inward and collided with Tyreek, resulting in the fall.

Gibbons walked away shaken but not seriously hurt, while Tyreek was transported to Randwick Equine Centre with a leg injury.

Snowden said his colt’s effort was meritorious but acknowledged the sombre circumstances. “He’s done a good job and he deserved a nice race. I’m glad he’s won. It was just unfortunate with the incident today. He has been racing well and he relaxed super, which was great, and he was good at the end which was good to see. It’s a good result.”

Removing the winkers helped Grand Prairie settle in his first attempt past 1200m, and Snowden said he could yet press on to the Group 1 Golden Rose. “Naturally if he ran well today I would think about the Golden Rose for him but I just need to see how he’s pulled up and see how things are. He is very genuine and he ran the 1300 right out today which was good to see.”

Racing stewards have opened an inquiry into the fall, which remains under investigation.
