Pride Of Jenni prepares return towards the 2025 Empire Rose Stakes, Champions Mile
Pride Of Jenni, crowned Horse Of The Year last season, is preparing for a racetrack return after being entered for trials next week.
The Ciaron Maher-trained mare is engaged for an 800m jump-out at Cranbourne on Monday and another trial at Caulfield Heath on Tuesday. Maher said conditions would determine where she steps out.
Thought to be bound for the breeding barn following her tenth in the Group 1 Doomben Cup in May, Pride Of Jenni has instead returned to training in excellent shape. She completed her pre-training at owner Tony Ottobre’s property before resuming at Cranbourne.
“She had a good break and came back looking terrific,” Maher said. “She’s happy, sound and moving really well. Every time she comes back she surprises us, she really is remarkable.”
While no first-up assignment has been locked in, Maher expects her to remain in Melbourne this spring, targeting mile and 1800m events towards the back end of the carnival. “We’ll see how she comes through the trials but she’s in a great spot,” he added.
The mare’s possible spring aims include the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes and Group 1 Champions Mile, both held during Melbourne Cup week at Flemington. Pride Of Jenni captured both events last year to clinch Horse Of The Year honours.
