2025 Concorde Stakes first-up for Lady Shenandoah
Chris Waller has confirmed Lady Shenandoah will stay in Sydney for her seasonal return, lining up in the $1 million Group 3 Concorde Stakes at Randwick rather than travelling south for the Group 1 Moir Stakes.
It will be the three-time Group 1 winner’s first outing over 1000m since her debut on a heavy track at Warwick Farm. Waller said minimising challenges was key. “First time 1000 metres (in Stakes grade), I’d rather do it in Sydney than first time 1000 first time left-handed. We’ll just do one question mark instead of two question marks.”
Depending on her performance, Lady Shenandoah could next head to the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley before possible assignments in The Everest or the Golden Eagle. “We’ve got to be careful we’re not trying to reinvent her… Saturday will tell us a lot. If we’re completely off target we might even skip 1200 and go straight to a 1300,” Waller said.
Stablemate Angel Capital is also due to resume, entered for both the Group 2 Tramway Stakes (1400m) in Sydney and the Listed Chautauqua Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley. Waller said the Tramway looms strong but noted, “He’s either going towards the Epsom or the Sir Rupert Clarke… I just want to see the noms for both places.”
