Agarwood ready to roll in the 2025 Furious Stakes
Whether Agarwood runs in Saturday’s $300,000 Group 2 Furious Stakes will depend on her week in training, with co-trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott weighing up options after her unplaced effort in the Silver Shadow Stakes.
The Wootton Bassett filly, who had previously been unbeaten in two starts, was a six-length sixth on a heavy 10 track. Bott said the conditions were the key factor and they want to rebuild her confidence. “She may also be nominated for a midweek race to get a bit of confidence back off the back of that,” he said. “She seems great and she has worked up nicely.”
No alternative entries have been lodged this week, but Canterbury’s 1250m benchmark 72 next Wednesday remains an option. “It was difficult, she was beaten pretty quickly and convincingly the other day but she didn’t handle the track. It was very heavy, so you need to be forgiving of that,” Bott said.
Tulloch Lodge has a second Furious Stakes nomination in Woodlands Stakes winner Stardom, who tuned up with a front-running trial win at Hawkesbury. The stable will also unveil their Melbourne Cup hopes, Vauban and Sir Delius, in Saturday’s Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m at Randwick.
