Coolmore Stud Stakes test in the McKenzie Stakes 2025 for Rosberg

While many of Clinton McDonald’s top colts have been sold abroad in recent years, Rosberg will not be leaving his care. The trainer has placed a “not for sale” tag on the Deep Field three-year-old, confident he can develop into a stallion prospect at home.
Rosberg makes his highly anticipated debut in Saturday’s Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley, with the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes firmly on the agenda later in the spring. “We want to head towards the Coolmore with him, third up, so he’s got to put his hand up on Saturday,” McDonald said.
He had a strong hit-out at The Valley earlier this week, impressing under Ben Melham before Jamie Mott was booked to ride due to suspension. “He’s a big boy at 16.3 hands and 575 kilos, but he’s very clean-winded and hasn’t been rushed,” McDonald said. “It’s time to see what we’ve got.”
Rosberg has already been supported in betting, shortening to $5 for his debut. McDonald is bullish: “We’re going there to win. He’s fit, he’s had the preparation, and he knows what it’s about.”
