Oak Hill set to rebound in the 2025 Moir Stakes
The Hayes brothers are hoping Oak Hill can redeem himself when he returns to Moonee Valley for Saturday’s Group 1 Moir Stakes.
A brilliant first-up winner at the track and trip, Oak Hill failed to reproduce that form in the Listed Carlyon Stakes, finishing fifth. Ben Hayes said the stable has since tweaked his training approach to ensure he is better conditioned for the Moir.
“We tried to keep him fresh and it backfired,” Hayes explained. “This time we’ve worked him a bit harder, and he’s been super relaxed. We think the benefit of his last run, along with a strong gallop this week, will show on race day.”
Hayes also welcomed the booking of Blake Shinn, who partnered Oak Hill to his first two wins for the stable. A wide barrier has not dampened confidence. “The draw doesn’t worry me. He’s a momentum horse and from wider out he should get clear running. If things go to plan, he’ll run a big race.”
