Attrition back on track ahead of 2025 So You Think Stakes

Posted by RS NewsWire at 11:01am on September 6th

After a luckless first-up run, Attrition has been given a timely reset and is ready to relaunch his spring campaign at Moonee Valley.

The entire was badly hampered in the Group 2 Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, leaving trainer Mitchell Freedman to regroup with a barrier trial at Horsham and a Valley gallop this week. The plan has restored confidence ahead of Saturday’s Group 2 So You Think Stakes (1500m).

“I was rapt with the work he did at Horsham,” Freedman said. “Alana Kelly partnered him there. She said he was a little hesitant to go into a gap, but when she gave him a squeeze he quickened into it. That was pleasing to see… the interference was quite significant at Caulfield, so it was good to see him bounce through it. He’s going to be better the further he gets out in trip.”

The horse’s preparation is being aimed towards another tilt at the Group 2 Hill Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill, which Attrition won last year. “He’s got a program set in place… the Hill Stakes is a target again. It might be tougher this year, but the distance suits and he races well there,” Freedman said.
