Joliestar gains a slow in the $20m The Everest field
The stage is set for Joliestar to open her campaign in the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday as she builds toward The Everest.
The Newmarket Handicap star was this week named to represent Chris Waller Racing and Partners in the $20 million Everest (1200m). It will be her second crack at the race after she was a luckless seventh for the same slot holders in 2024.
Her announcement came hot on the heels of stablemate Lady Shenandoah’s Concorde Stakes second, but Waller was quick to back Joliestar’s credentials. “She’s just gone from strength to strength. What she did in the Newmarket was exceptional and to back it up in Brisbane shows the quality she possesses. She’s matured beautifully and we couldn’t be more excited to have her back for The Everest.”
Unraced since capturing the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) in June, Joliestar has an outstanding record first-up and is already a three-time winner fresh, including her Show County Quality success last spring. She is the well-supported $2.25 favourite for the Sheraco Stakes and a $13 chance for The Everest.
Her addition boosts an already formidable Everest field featuring Ka Ying Rising, TJ Smith Stakes winner Briasa, Private Harry and Jimmysstar.
Attention has also turned to the $2 million Kosciuszko (1200m), with Wednesday’s slot draw locking in several contenders. Two-time winner Front Page and Clear Thinking headline the early selections, while Compelling Truth, Bandi’s Boy and So Magnificent have also secured their spots ahead of the October 18 Randwick meeting.
