Will Godolphin be Tempted to take filly to 2025 The Everest?

Posted by RS NewsWire at 5:53pm on September 13th

Tempted has written her name into the history books, becoming just the second filly to capture the Run To The Rose with a breathtaking victory at Rosehill. The performance has catapulted her into discussions for the Golden Rose and even the $20 million The Everest.

Trainer Ciaron Maher was buoyed by the result against a top-class field littered with Golden Slipper placegetters. “What she has been showing us is far better than anything else I had in Sydney so I was quite confident today. She was very impressive, wasn’t she? She could go a number of different ways but given how she put them away it would be very attractive.”

The only other filly to achieve the feat, In Secret, used the race as a springboard to Group 1 success in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, and Maher believes Tempted could forge a similar path—perhaps with an Everest tilt added. “It probably wouldn’t be beyond her. Three-year-olds have a pretty good record. The fillies haven’t done as well as the colts but she might be one out of the box.”

Tempted ($3.90 fav) produced a powerful finishing burst to claim victory by 1-1/2 lengths over Beiwacht ($7.50), with Skyhook ($5.50) a close third. Wodeton ($8) and stablemate State Visit ($71) both impressed running on strongly, with connections likely to press towards the Golden Rose.

Runner-up jockey Adam Hyeronimus conceded the filly’s brilliance caught him off guard. “I wasn’t expecting a horse to go past us that quick at the furlong. She has run really well the filly. I do think he’s going to maybe be a risk going to the Golden Rose over seven furlongs. That will all depend on the race shape.”
