Tempted on song for 2025 Golden Rose assault

Godolphin filly Tempted will have her chance to impress selectors for the team’s coveted Everest slot when she contests the Group 1 Golden Rose at Rosehill this weekend.

With Godolphin holding off on a decision about their representative for the $20 million Randwick sprint on October 18, Tempted’s performance could be decisive. Beiwacht, another contender in the famous Royal Blue colours, will also get his shot.

Tempted has drawn barrier eight in a nine-horse lineup and will be partnered once more by Ethan Brown, who guided her to victory in the Run To The Rose. Beiwacht has drawn gate two.

Trainer Ciaron Maher was upbeat about her progress. “She was up there with the best of them as a two-year-old and she’s come back in great order as a three-year-old,” Maher said. “Godolphin do have their slot and there have been discussions, but it will be one step at a time.”

Rather than heading to the Caulfield Guineas, Maher said Tempted is more likely to be freshened for either The Everest or the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.

Maher added that Bong Bong’s setup was perfect for her. “She can be out in the paddock, she relaxes well and eats well. She’s not heavy, has plenty of depth, and the property really suits those chestnut fillies that can be a little hot.”

Maher is seeking his first Golden Rose success, while Godolphin is aiming for a seventh, with recent winners including Broadsiding (2023) and Bivouac (2019).
